Annual subscription Subs for 2010 are now due. If you haven’t already received your subs form, please contact the office as soon as possible.
Lockers There are, as you know 16 lockers available for yearly rent, unfortunately there are 6 lockers that are being misused, some are locked and some are full with golf equipment. Therefore I am hoping members come forward with information as I have been instructed to clear the lockers and the contents will be given to charity. Deadline 1st MARCH 2010.

Juniors' evening:-Sunday 31st January 2010 at 7.30pm in the Clubhouse It is that time of year again when we all have a get together for a social evening with all new and old members. Pizza and nibbles are provided. Your parents are more than welcome to come along and have a chat and see the club and I will have all the Local, County, District and National fixtures to give out. We will have a short prize giving for all the Junior Trophies. Claire Whyte

Group Coaching Lessons We are organising another group coaching to start in April 2010. The group session’s run for eight weeks and is for a maximum of 8 people. The sessions are for one hour and there is a charge of Ł70 per session regardless of the number of people who are in the group. So the more people in the group the cheaper it is per person. e.g. If there were seven people then it would cost Ł10 each, per week a list is on the notice board.
The “Wee Yellow Book” We are informed that the order is due to be delivered at the end of January.
The Open Championship 2010 St Andrews - SUNDAY 11th 18th JULY The Open Championship Ticket Booking Form and Spectators Guides are now available and are located near the notice boards. Can I draw your attention to the discount price for season tickets if purchased before 31st January. In addition there is free admission to under 16s and reduced admission for youths. If you require any further information please ring the R&A - Ticket Office on 01334 460010.
Playing off mats Please note: As we are now in the 'Playing off mats' season please familiarise yourself with the Local Rule also displayed on the club notice board.

November/December 2009
Putting The winter putting season is going very well with indoor competitions on a Tuesday at 10.15am on a 2 weekly basis. The next get together will be on 8 December. All members over the age of 55 yrs are very welcome to come along and enjoy good fun and a chat.
Scratch Fives We have decided to enter a second team next year. This will be for Category 2/3 players who will be in the 3rd league to begin with. There will be no overlap of members between the 2 teams. If you have a handicap of say, between 10 & 18 please let Michelle know if you would like to be in the pool of players.
Group Coaching Lessons Because the last group coaching was so successful we are organising another group to start in April 2010. The Wee Yellow Book There is a list on the notice board for anyone wanting to purchase a Wee Yellow Book, costing Ł3.50. Closing date for orders is the 7th December 2009.
New Members Evening was held on the 4th November. We were delighted with the turn out. I hope you found the evening informative and valuable.
Annual Dinner & Prizegiving Thank you all for attending a very successful Annual Dinner and Prizegiving which was held on 13th November. 85 members were in attendance. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all who donated raffle prizes. It was greatly appreciated. The Raffle made a huge Ł357.00. Thanks to everyone.

Marshalling at The Open Championship 2010 Unfortunately the Club has not been able to accept the invitation to marshal at the Championship. We needed between 40 to 50 volunteers and we did not get sufficient people who expressed an interest in getting involved.
REMINDERS- dates for your diary Annual General Meeting: on Thursday 3rd December at 7.30 pm in the Clubhouse. There is an Apology List on the notice board. Please advise if unable to attend. Distribution of paperwork for AGM:The papers were sent by email on the 17th November. However should any member wish to pick up a hard copy, there are some provided near the notice boards. Those without email should have received their papers in the post. Rules of Golf Quiz Night: on FRIDAY 4th DECEMBER @ 7.30 pm in THE NEW GOLF CLUB MIXED LOUNGE. Anyone wishing to be part of a team for this quiz please add your name on the list on the notice board or email Michelle. Santa Drive: on Wednesday 9th December at 7.00pm in the Clubhouse. This is a popular event and if you would like to come along and join in the fun just add your name to the list in the club. There will be NO raffle held on this evening.

You need to have put in three score cards between February 2009 and December 2009. If you are not able to play in the medals or other competitions then there is still time to put in Supplementary Cards. (If you are in any doubt please have a word with Iris or if you would like to check how many qualifying rounds you have played, the Handicap Record Sheets are displayed on the notice board.)

MATS - LOCAL RULE A ball coming to rest on ANY fairway ON THE COURSE MUST be lifted, placed on and played from an ASTROTURF MAT. The Astroturf Mat must be placed AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO WHERE THE BALL ORIGINALLY LAY. The ball may be cleaned under this LOCAL RULE. If the ball is not steady on the mat and continues to move after placed, the Mat may be replaced to the nearest spot not nearer the hole, where the ball, when placed, will remain at rest. There is NO PENALTY should the ball move or be moved after being placed on the mat and before making a Stroke, including when addressing the ball or taking a practice swing. Should a tee peg be used to secure the mat, the ball should not be placed on the tee peg. PENALTY FOR BREACH OF LOCAL RULE: STROKE PLAY - 2 SHOTS, MATCH PLAY - LOSS OF HOLE.

More Good Results Our club champion, Fiona Hastie, has recently become the Fife Lady Champion of Champions. Fiona won this title at Burntisland Golf Club. Well Done Fiona! Also; Rachel Hanlon and Elaine Moffat were part of the Fife County Team playing in the East of Scotland women’s golf championship at Mortonhall Golf Club. Rachel came first in the Handicap Prizewinners and the Fife Team were runners up.
Annual Dinner & Prize Giving Friday 13th November 2009 Our Annual Dinner and Prizegiving will be on the above date and is to be held in the Links Clubhouse at 7.00 for 7.30pm. Glenmuir order Unfortunately before placing an order with Glenmuir, we need to receive a minimum of 8 requests; therefore an order has not yet been placed for those of you who have orders pending. Michelle will place an order in December, after the Annual Dinner & Prize giving, to give you all a chance to spend your gift vouchers.
Blue Bag in Locker Room? There appears to be a blue bag in the locker room. Does anyone recognise it? Is it yours? Do you know whose it may be? Any answers to these questions would be welcome via Michelle.
The Open in 2010:-Message from TaylorMade Adidas Golf. To all those who have responded to my request for letting accommodation the week of the Open 2010, I was over whelmed with response and I thank everyone who contacted me via email. I have now covered all our requirements and I apologies to anyone that I have not managed to say thanks for their offers, I will of course answer you all individually, kind regards. Julieanne Thorpe.

The Gourlay Foursomes on Saturday 10 October This is traditionally the event that brings the main summer season to a close. There will be tea and cakes available in the club house after the golf when our Life Members will be invited to join us, invitations are in the post.

Scratch Fives For the 6th time in 8 years St Regulus have won the Fife Scratch Fives competition - the Dunlop Quaich. Ably managed by Dorothy Scott, the team was made up from Fiona Hastie, Elaine Moffat, Dorothy Johnston, Rachel Hanlon, Alison McDonald, Rachel Myles and Joyce Flannigan. Results: Balbirnie (away) win by 4-1, Dunfermline (home) win by 5-0, St Rule (away) win by 4-1, Ladybank (away) win by 5-0, Thornton (home) win by 5-0. Congratulations to everybody on an excellent set of results!
Junior/Senior Match If you would like to get involved in the Junior/Senior event being played on Tuesday 18 August then please see the entry sheet on the notice board.
The Scottish Senior Open at Fairmont St Andrews 21 23 August The organisers of this event are currently looking for volunteers to assist with crowd control and scoring. For their efforts the volunteers will receive: lunch each day, a Cleveland/Srixon wind top, free entry and free parking for the event throughout the week. In addition all volunteers will be given the opportunity to play the Torrance Course and compete for great prizes. The golf day will take place on Wednesday 9 September. If you are interested in any of these opportunities there is a poster displayed on the notice board giving full details. Tickets for Scottish Senior Open at Fairmont St Andrews We have received 13 complimentary tickets which allow entry for two people on any or all of the tournament days (21 to 23 August 2009). We would like to make the tickets available to members and intend to have a ballot for them. If you would like to put your name in the ballot then please let Michelle know. We will pull the names out of a hat on Monday 10 August.
The Open in 2010 Have you considered renting your property out for The Open in 2010? TaylorMade Adidas Golf Europe has asked us to let our members know that they are looking to rent properties or rooms for the whole week. If you are interested please contact Julieanne Thorp on 01256 408684 or email her on julieanne.thorp@tmag.com for information.
Gorse removal and regeneration areas The Links Trust have programme of work to remove and regenerate the gorse. I would like to remind you to take extra care in these areas where there are stumps and bare earth.
Car Park Barrier The car park barrier has been repaired and is now in working order. There can however be a delay in the barrier re-closing. To avoid unauthorised cars driving through before the barrier has had time to close, car park users are advised to present their card to the reader and then wait a short time (counting to five is about right) until the barrier is fully raised before driving forward. If you wait until the barrier is fully raised before driving under it then it should help to avoid the long delays before it closes again. This is for both in and out barriers.

Scratch Fives The Scratch Fives team continue their successful run in the Fife Scratch Fives competition. Managed by Dorothy Scott the team of Fiona Hastie, Elaine Moffat, Dorothy Johnston, Rachel Hanlon and Alison McDonald have so far beaten Balbirnie 4-1 away, Dunfermline 5-0 at home and St Rule 4-1 away. Well done ladies!
Yellow Notices Please take extra time to re-read the existing rules of the Club, we have printed them on bright yellow paper, so it's easier to read and pinned them to the notice boards in the Clubhouse. “Rules and/or Guidelines” will be printed in this way in the future.
Glenmuir Update Those ladies who have not collected there items (ordered on Coffee Morning) please contact the office to arrange collection. Also a new order will be placed on Monday so if anyone wants to take advantage of this, then please let Michelle know.

We are trying to finalise the arrangements and it looks like session will go ahead in August, we will contact those of you who have already expressed an interest very soon. However, if anyone else wants to sign up, then please let us know, no later than 6th July.
How did I do? Club Systems have fixed the problem many members were having, this is mainly due to the perseverance of Irene Ray one of our Executive Committee Members Well Done!

Junior News I am very pleased to let you know that Morag McNamara has volunteered to help Claire Whyte with the Junior Section. Our thanks go to Morag. Two teams of girls have been entered into the Rotary Foursomes and the first round will be played on the Eden Course on 16 June 2009. This is a big event for the girls and they will be representing the club in their new uniforms. It would add to the occasion if some of us were able to be there to see the girls off. If you would like to support the girls, the tee times start at 4.20pm.
Putting Section - results The putting season is progressing well and the May Medal results are: 1st Scratch Linda Shannon 40, 1st Handicap Anne Stewart 43 + 2 (see also...)
Glenmuir Coffee Morning We had a very successful coffee morning which owed much to the lovely home baking that was available with the tea and coffee. My thanks go to all of you who took the time to help with this event. We have ordered the many sweaters and tops that you asked for and Michelle will be in touch when the clothes have arrived and are ready for payment and collection.

Krystle starts her professional career in fine style 17th May - Krystle Caithness was placed 18th in the Swiss Ladies Open with rounds of 71, 75, 69,71. Herkless Trophy Presentation This year the Herkless Trophy will be presented to the winning ladies in the St Regulus club house on Wednesday 6 May at 7.00 for 7.30. Mr Peter Forster, the new Chairman of the St Andrews Links Trust, has accepted an invitation to present the trophy. I would like to invite you to join me in hosting this presentation. Everybody is welcome and there is no need to have played in the competition.
New Members Evening The Captain and Committee would like to invite you to the new members evening on Wednesday 20th May 2009 at 7.30pm enabling new members to meet the committee and existing members of the club ALL ARE WELCOME. Also if any parents of junior members would like to come, then it would be an opportunity to meet everyone involved.
Junior News Our junior members are having success both within their club competitions and elsewhere. Congratulations to Rebecca Todd, one of our newest junior members, on winning the Grant Trophy. Some of the other notable achievements are that Rachel Hanlon and Lauren Whyte were selected to play for Fife County in the Cuthbertson Cup. Fife was unfortunately beaten in the final by a very strong Midlothian team. Also Rachel Hanlon and Camilla Tait have been selected to play for the East in the East of Scotland versus West of Scotland match in June. We wish them well for that. (See also...)
Volunteer Sought to help Junior Convenor You’ve just read about some of the achievements from our Junior Section. Would you like to get involved in helping Claire Whyte our Junior Convenor? We have some very successful junior golfers and some very enthusiastic girls who are keen to progress. Are you able to give some time to work with Claire to support the girls and to help the club sustain its very successful junior section? If you would like to find out more please contact Claire Whyte or Irene Morrison who will be very pleased to hear from you.
Open Championship at Turnberry The R&A are offering to pay Ł250 towards the cost of a bus to visit the Open Championship at Turnberry if we can muster 30 members, at least 20 of whom are full paying adults. If this is something that you might be interested in then please let us know. We will put up a sheet for any names.
Group Coaching Lessons If sufficient people are interested it might be possible to organise some group coaching sessions with the Links Trust. We will put up a sheet for any one who might be interested in this. Let us know and we will see what can be organised.

Glenmuir Coffee Morning We are planning a Glenmuir Coffee Morning on Tuesday 19th May at 10.00 when Sarah from Glenmuir will be displaying items from the collections. This will be an opportunity to see and try on the fashions while enjoying a coffee. You can order from the Spring/Summer 2009 Catalogue which is displayed on the notice board and we’ve also now got the catalogue for Autumn / Winter 2010. Some of you may still have vouchers that can be used.
Fixture Cards Those ladies, who have not collected their Fixture Cards for this year, will find them pinned to the notice board in the clubhouse ready for collection.
Good Results Continue The good results are continuing this season. The Scratch Fives Team has got off to a winning start against Balbirnie with a 4 to 1 win. Also Bev Brown and Janice Pirie have had a win against St Rule in the Daily Mail Foursomes. Well done ladies and good luck for your next matches.

Re-Decoration The re-decoration of the stairs and lower hallways has now been completed. The painters and decorators have done an excellent job and I would like to thank Mary Clark and the House Committee for their efforts in bringing about this big improvement to the appearance of the club. Thank you for your patience while the work was being done.
Captain ‘v’ Vice Captain Match We got the 2009 season off to a good start with the annual match between the Captain’s and Vice Captain’s teams. This year was a win for the Vice Captain’s team. Many thanks to those of you who supported this traditional event by playing in the match and coming along to the club for the tea. Thanks also go to Meroe Wilson and the committee members who provided food and service on the day.
New Trophy Presented to Club The Club has had great pleasure in accepting a beautiful trophy donated by the family of Kathleen Patricia Dunne, generally known as Pat. Pat was a former Lady Captain and it was her wish that a trophy should be presented to the Club. The trophy will be known as the “K P Dunne Trophy for seniors”. The competition format will be a matchplay event played over the summer months by members who are 60 years and over. We are hoping that the trophy can be played for this summer and we will be trying to get that organised soon.
BIG CONGRATULATIONS Well done to one of our very talented junior members, Rachel Hanlon. For winning the Fife Council Stableford Competition. She is a credit to the club. “Keep up the good work Rachel”
Putters A very successful winter putting season has come to an end and the new summer season will commence on 7th April with the first Medal on the Himalayas. If you are 55 or over and would like to get involved with the Putting Section then please speak to Ann Gray. She would be very pleased to hear from you.
Glenmuir Coffee Morning We are planning a Glenmuir Coffee Morning on Tuesday 19th May at 10.00 when Sarah from Glenmuir will be displaying items from the collections. This will be an opportunity to see and try on the fashions while enjoying a coffee. You can order from the Spring/Summer 2009 Catalogue which is displayed on the notice board and we’ve also now got the catalogue for Autumn / Winter 2010. Some of you may still have vouchers that can be used.
Scottish Ladies Golfing Association We have received a letter from the SLGA inviting nominations for a Director for the East Division. Nominations for the Board are required by 30 September. If this is something that you think you might be interested in then please get in touch with Irene Morrison who will be able to let you have more background information about this opportunity to get involved with the SLGA Board and its Committees.

Krystle Caithness We had a great turn out for Krystle’s presentation. We presented her with a cheque for Ł1500. A very kind donation of Ł500 was made by Murray Mitchell and the rest was donated by the club. We wish her all the best for her bright future. (Photos)

Krystle Caithness Everyone at the club has been very proud of Krystle’s latest achievement and at the AGM we discussed how we might be able to support her during her first few months on tour. The Executive Committee has agreed that we should present Krystle with a cheque to give her some immediate financial help towards her expenses. We’ll let you know the date and time for the presentation and I hope you’ll be able to come and wish Krystle every success. We’re also hoping that it may be possible to organise some further fund raising event.

Use of Distance-Measuring Devices At our AGM we were asked to consider whether the use of distance measuring devices could be allowed in our competitions. The Executive Committee discussed this and has agreed that they will be allowed. We will therefore introduce the following Local Rule with immediate effect. “For play in all competitions a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. If, during a competition, a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g. gradient, windspeed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional function is actually used.” The committee will however monitor the use of these devices and may review the decision to allow them if their use appears to be contributing to slow play.
Krystle Caithness qualifies for the Ladies European Tour. St Regs member Krystle Caithness excelled at the LET qualifying school in La Manga 12th - 14th January. She qualified in 7th position and will now turn professional. Well done Krystle - St Regulus' ladies wish you all the best for a very successful future.
