October 2008 News from the Captain
Kingsbarns Quaich 2008 Once again we were plagued with bad weather for our day at Kingsbarns. Thirty three ladies braved the elements and played nine holes. The winning team was Janet Thompson, Silvia Whithorn and Caroline Slatter. I would like to convey my sincere thanks to all the ladies who took part and also the ladies that came to Kingsbarns and enjoyed a chat and a coffee.
Fife Scratch Fives Our Scratch Fives Team, managed by Dorothy Scott, won the Dunlop Quaich for the 5th time in 7 years. The team was ably led by Dorothy Johnston, Fiona Hastie, Elaine Moffat and Frances Robertson with valuable contributions from Krystle Caithness, Alison McDonald, Danuta McLachlan, Lynne Tait, Rachel Hanlon, Irene Morrison, Rachel Myles, and Camilla Tait. This was the largest number of people called on to play. A real team effort by the club. My thanks go to every one who has represented St Regulus so well and in particular to Dorothy Scott for her continued support in managing the team.
Junior Prizegiving We held the Junior Prizegiving at a dinner on Sunday 26 October. This followed a successful fun event for junior members, their family members and the some of the St Regulus ladies. It involved a pink golf ball and there were many comments about the pressure of keeping the pink ball in play. I would like to thank Claire Whyte, as Junior Convenor, for all her help and support with our junior members. This year’s winners of the junior trophies are Catriona Scott, Alexandria Tait and Lauren Whyte. Well done girls.
Annual Dinner and PrizegivingOur Annual Dinner and Prizegiving will be on Friday 7 November 2008 in the Links Clubhouse at 7.00pm. All the prize winners and committee members are asked to be there at 6.30pm for the usual photographs. The event is being well attended and the table plans and food orders will be finalised shortly. If you’ve still to select what you’d like to eat will you please fill in the sheet so we can let the Links have the food order. The cost of the meal is £23.50 and this should be paid to the Treasurer beforehand. The Prizegiving wouldn’t be complete without the raffle so any contributions for raffle prizes would be welcome on the night or can be handed into the club.
Club Administrator We have recruited a new Club Administrator and she will be joining us on Wednesday 29 October. We will let you have further information when she takes up post.
Christmas Beetle Drive Yes it’s that time of the year again. We will be having a Christmas Beetle Drive here in the club on Wednesday 10 December at 7.30pm. This is a popular event and if you would like to come along and join in the fun just add your name to the list in the club.
Handicaps As we’re coming towards the end of the year, Iris Kerr (Handicap Secretary) has asked me to remind you about making sure that you have sufficient score cards in to avoid your handicap lapsing. You need to have put in three score cards between February 2008 and January 2009. If you are not able to play in the medals or other competitions then there is still time to put in Supplementary Cards. If you are in any doubt please have a word with Iris.
200 Club Winners The September winners were: 1st prize Janet Cross £30, 2nd prize Caroline Moore £20

September 2008
Kingsbarns Quaich 2008 The annual team competition at Kingsbarns has been rescheduled for Saturday 25 October. The entry sheet is up in the club and there are still some of the original players who have not yet let us know if they are able to come. We now have a reserve list and it would be helpful to know how many places will be available for the people on the reserve list. If you haven’t already done so will you please tick the sheet to let us know your intentions.
The Castle Course CompetitionThis competition has proved to be very popular and the list is now full with some names on the reserve list. To avoid any misunderstandings on the day I thought it might be helpful to mention at this stage that when we play The Castle Course the normal Links Ticket arrangements will apply to cover the cost of the green fee. This competition is not like the Kingsbarns one where we have an entry fee in place of the normal green fee.
Glenmuir Evening The Glenmuir evening on Tuesday 9 September was another success. We will be sending off the order in the next few days so your new tops and trousers should be with you soon. The autumn/winter catalogue is on the noticeboard for anyone who was not able to be at the evening and would like to order something. I would like to say thank you and well done to the ladies who volunteered to model the clothes. I’m sure the excellent models helped to achieve the large number of orders we have received.
Annual Dinner and Prizegiving Thanks to everyone for returning the trophies. They are now off to the jewellers for engraving and will be ready for our Annual Dinner and Prizegiving on Friday 7 November 2008. The dinner will again be in the Links Clubhouse where they have looked after us well in previous years. The menu and table plans are now on the board in the club for you to book your place. The cost of the meal is £23.50.
Winter Mats I want to give you advance notice about the way in which mats will be used on the golf courses this winter. The Inter-Club Liaison Committee (ICLC) discussed and agreed to support The Links with a trial to use mats on all the courses during November, December and January. (The use of mats on The Old Course will continue for longer.) This means that our competitions and Medals played during those months will be played using mats on the fairways. We normally try to avoid using the courses where mats are in use but that will not be possible this winter. We will remind you, for each competition, about the use of mats in a Medal.
Adam Smith College The Adam Smith College provided the catering for the first time on Saturday after the Cancer Relief competition. Everyone who was there felt it was a big success. Unfortunately numbers were lower than expected because of the number of people who did not play on the day. The arrangement with Adam Smith College looks very promising but its success will depend on members making use of the service
Club Administrator We are trying again to recruit a new Club Administrator. If you, or someone you know, would be interested in this post, Irene would be willing to talk to them about what the job involves and how to apply.
Mixed Foursomes Another successful event with many thanks to Fiona McEwan, Mary Clark and everyone who supported the event by playing and providing raffle prizes. The raffle raised £132.
The winners were Christine Smith and Richard Perry with Fiona McEwan and Jim Jenkinson in second place and Nicky Wilson and Ian Wilson in third place.
County Winter Foursomes The club will be entering a silver team and a bronze team to take part in the Fife County Winter Foursomes. To take part in this event you must be a member of the Fife County Ladies Golf Association. If you and a partner would like to play in this event then please put your names on the entry sheet in the club. The club will then have a ballot to decide who will play in the event.
St Regulus Competitions From time to time it seems appropriate to explain or remind all of us about different aspects of the many rules of golf. This month I would like to draw your attention to the arrangements and personal responsibilities of players who for whatever reason decide to give up play. This may happen, for example, in bad weather or for personal safety reasons. I have put up a notice in the club which I hope you find helpful.
200 Club Winners The August winners were: 1st prize Maggi Seymour 2nd prize Margaret Cocozza

August 2008
Vets 3rd Round Round 3 of the Vets Competition was due to be played on Thursday 7 August but unfortunately because of the bad weather nobody played. Round 3 will now be rescheduled for Thursday 25 September 2008 (own times only) and a new entry sheet will be put on the board.
Kingsbarns Quaich 2008 The annual team competition at Kingsbarns has been rescheduled for Saturday 25 October. We’ll put up an entry sheet to check how many of the original players are still able to come and whether there are any places available.
Glenmuir Evening We are planning another Glenmuir evening on Tuesday 9 September at 6.30 in the club. This will be an opportunity to see the new autumn and winter range of clothes. If you are willing to model the clothes for us then please let Irene know.
Trophies Thanks to everyone who has already returned their trophies. For insurance purposes we need to have all the trophies back in the club by 31 August 2008. Will those of you who still have trophies to return please get in touch with Irene to arrange when it would be convenient for you to do this.
Changes to Fixture Card The Marie Nicoll Trophy will be played on The Eden on Thursday 28 August and the Vets Hidden Hole will be played on The Strathtyrum on Thursday 4 September. Both these competitions are Own Times. We have swapped the dates over to help people who wish to play in the Marie Nicoll and need to play later in the day.
Castle Course We have not yet finalised the competition arrangements but we are considering a team event (or some other format) that will help people familiarise themselves with the course while not affecting handicaps.
Centenary Committee For those of you not already aware, St Regulus Ladies Golf Club celebrates an important anniversary in 2013. The Centenary Committee is now up and running. Valerie Johnston (Chair), Sylvia Dunne, Dorothy Scott and Mary Clark held the first meeting recently. There will be another meeting in October. Members will have the first report at the AGM in December.

You will be able to use Firefox or Safari to view it - Internet Explorer also works but is no longer essential. It can be found at http://www.howdidido.co.uk/ By registering you will be opening up your own home page each time you login.
Lost Property Have you been looking for something recently and not able to find it? We have a few things that have been left in the club. Please get in touch if you would like to reclaim: A Jaeger jumper cream with pink, blue and yellow stripes. Set of house keys with club key fob and Tesco Clubcard. We wish her well for the future. Irene Morrison has volunteered to help with the Office Administrator’s role and she will provide cover in the office for the next few months. Irene will aim to be in the office on Monday mornings and will be in at other times during the week to deal with post, emails and other messages. Irene will be combining this with other things she is involved in and there will be some flexibility in the times that she will be in the office. To help you get in touch we will be installing an answer machine so that you can leave a voice message for Irene.
Rutherford Eclectic Round 1 Round 1 of the Rutherford Eclectic was due to be played on Thursday 10 July but unfortunately it was cancelled because of bad weather. Round 1 will now be rescheduled for Wednesday 20 August 2008 and a new entry sheet will be put on the board.
Play-Away Outing 2008 The annual play-away will this year be at Glenisla Golf Club on Saturday 16 August. This is always a good day out and as the main purpose is to have fun it will be a 13 club event not counting for handicap. There are only six places still available so if you fancy being driven to and from Glenisla, a bacon roll on arrival, a game of golf and a two course meal afterwards, all for £50 (inclusive of all costs and gratuities) then check your diary and sign up. There is a sheet in the clubhouse for adding your name but if you can not make it into the clubhouse then send an email and we will add you name to the list. This will be a great day out.
